THUMPERMONKEY release 'Deckchair For Your Ghost' re-imagined by Dan Briggs of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME

Dan Briggs of 2019 Grammy-nominated progressive metal band Between the Buried and Me has reworked the track 'Deckchair For Your Ghost' by THUMPERMONKEY.

Stream and download it for FREE here:

Originally appearing on THUMPERMONKEY's 2018 Make Me Young, Etc album, Dan gives the song a very different spin by stripping it to its bare elements and building it up again from scratch whilst incorporating elements of electronica and jazz.

Dan commented: "This song spoke to me because it has a naturally haunting nature, but I also really loved the dynamic shift that happens in the latter third of the track. It made me think of starting the track with the explosion and then really going on a surreal dreamlike kind of psychedelic journey to even further be a mirror image of the original version of the track."

Vocalist / Guitarist Michael Woodman commented: "It was great to have the opportunity to pop backstage at a recent BTBAM London show to thank Dan first hand for his version of our track. I thought that the original was weird enough, so it's fascinating to see how somebody can react to a piece, and then totally reimagine it from the ground up so that it scores even higher on the wonkiness scale."

This follows the release of multi-instumentalist Rael Jones' piano play-through of the track. Premiered via Gear Gods on Friday 15 February, check it out here:

THUMPERMONKEY will be playing a very special show with The Pineapple Thief at Manchester O2 Ritz on Friday 22nd March. Purchase tickets here.

released new album Sunshine Dust last year, via Entertainment One (eOne) / Good Fight Music and was received very well. Prog Magazine called it “Memorable, catchy and heavy, with proggy surprises.” Metal Injection called the new release “tighter, more approachable offering than anything Skyharbor has released” and Metal Hammer said it “boasts a collection of songs as instantaneous and memorable as they are engaging” in their 8/10 review.

Sunshine Dust was recorded in Australia with renown producer Forrester Savell. Nearly four years in the making, the band’s third full-length album delivers on the atmospheric and emotional promise of their earlier material, with breathtaking tectonic shifts between a wall of sound ambience and groove.

On Sunshine Dust, the immersive wall of sound SKYHARBOR first perfected in the studio environment, while as polished and precise as ever, shines with a new almost analogue warmth, born of the kind of collaborative camaraderie that only happens when musicians trust each other enough to experience growth. This is music filled with empowering inspiration and sweeping passions, a supernatural slice of transcendent sonic indulgence.

SKYHARBOR erode the boundaries between traditional hit making structures and technical dexterity with grace and poise, employing the gentle force of the changing of the tides, in all of its stealthily bombastic earth shaping might.

The Bristol-based rock outfit made waves in 2018, garnering support from Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and the Radio 1 Rock Show surrounding the release of Goodbye Dinosaur... The band's first ever release, their double A-side single Spin Club/Victorian Dolls (Pale Wizard Recordings) sold out quickly, and the momentum continued with follow-up single 'Triceratops', which caught the attention of Total Guitar Magazine, Headline Magazine, Kerrang! Radio, Scuzz TVBBC Introducing and more.

In the short time since their inception, the band have already shared stages across the UK with renowned acts such as Black PeaksPaganBlack FoxxesBlack Tusk and Avon (Alfredo Hernandez ofQueens of the Stone Age), as well as being personally invited to perform at 2000trees Festival.
While possessing a sound all of their own, PHOXJAW have been compared to the likes of At The Drive-In and Cave In, owing to their melodic tenacity and driving riffs, mixed with their ferocious energy on stage - establishing the outfit as a true force to be reckoned with.

Dutch metal band THE ROYAL keep exploring the wide variety of today's metal scene. After the release of their first label release Seven - which was hailed for its catchy riffs and uplifting songs - THE ROYAL played numerous club shows and festivals across 25 European countries during a two month tour. This was followed by a series of intercontinental shows during a four week tour in Japan and China.

Having spent much time on tour writing songs and discussing heavy topics, THE ROYALdecided to explore the darker side of metalcore on their upcoming album Deathwatch. The new record is a mix of catchy riffs with heavy breakdowns and ambient sounds. There is a lot of raw emotion put into this upcoming record, in which the band processes what has been a very emotional past year.

THE ROYAL's DIY work ethic with writing, producing, design and more has resulted in an album true to the band's vision. Whether it’s vocalist Sem Pisarahu writing about life struggles, or the exceptional guitar work of JD and Pim, if you like shadowy, epic-sounding, emotional metal music, rest assured, this album is for you.

HIGH ON FIRE win Grammy for best metal performance

HIGH ON FIRE took home the GRAMMY for "Best Metal Performance" last night at the 61st annual Grammy awards ceremony in Los Angeles, the music industry’s only peer-recognised accolade and highest achievement.
This was the band’s first nomination and first win. HIGH ON FIRE were nominated for 'Electric Messiah,' the title track off their 2018 album of the same name. The band, now as winners, join the ranks of past winners such as Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Metallica and Slayer.
"We never really needed an award for doing what we love,” says frontman Matt Pike. “Twenty-one years later, we finally got this. Thank you to the Academy." Pike went on to thank producer Kurt Ballou among others. Bassist Jeff Matz sent out a heartfelt shoutout to long-time manager and friend Nick John who passed away last year and who was an instrumental figure in the band’s success.

Italian metal band ELYNE release new single 'Wake Up'

Italian metal band ELYNE release new single 'Wake Up'

Italian modern metal band ELYNE have released their new single 'Wake Up' (8th February 2019).

Watch the video for 'Wake Up', premiered via Distorted Sound Magazine

Stream the single here:

On the 'Wake Up', Danny Faccani (vocals) comments "We want to invite people to start thinking with their own minds. This is basically what 'WAKE UP' is about. We want them to rise up against any form of religious institution and oppression."

Talking about the video, Danny continues: "Working with director and DOP, Pavel Trebuchin is always awesome. He already directed our music videos for 'Demons' and 'Stand Tall' and killed it, so we were sure about having him again on board to direct the video for 'Wake Up'. We choose to get a dark vs bright mood to the video to get people into the contrast between the two ways of thinking, close one vs open one. We used flames to represent the angry voice of the people and snakes to represent sins and evil in today's society."

Supported by Kerrang! Radio, and previously landing on two Spotify playlists (New Core - 340,000 followers and New Metal Tracks - 341,000 followers), ELYNE have recently proved a hit, with their prior single 'Stand Tall' charting at #1 on the Italian iTunes Metal Chart.

Forming in 2013, ELYNE immediately found themselves touring, including shows with Chelsea GrinArchitectsSworn In, and Being As An Ocean. In 2015 the band released the single 'Frames' and went on their first European headline tour, before releasing their second full length Alibi in April 2017, which reached #3 on the national Metal iTunes Chart.

The release of Alibi saw ELYNE play Home Festival (100,000 attendance) for the first time, one of Italy's largest music festivals, before ending the year with Of Mice & Men

ELYNE will tour across Europe and UK this year. Dates to be announced soon.

GHOST IRIS release third single 'The Devil's Plaything' with video

GHOST IRIS have premiered the video for new single 'The Devil's Plaything' from the band's 3rd studio album "Apple Of Discord", which will be released on February 22nd, 2019 via Long Branch Records.

Of the new album, GHOST IRIS comment:

"Apple Of Discord is a record we are incredibly proud of - mostly because it's our most passionate material to date. It reflects the experiences and represents the progress we have made over the last two years, both as a band and as individuals. One might even say that writing this album has been therapeutic for us. Bitterness, deceit, greed and frustration are feelings everyone has experienced one way or another in life, but it´s about how you channel the anger that comes along. And in our opinion, being able to use music to reflect and grow, is one of the most inspiring side effects when being artistically creative and passionate about what we believe in. We hope, you'll all enjoy Apple Of Discord just as much as we do."

BORDERS announce debut album Purify and reveal video for '731'

BORDERS announce debut album Purify and reveal video for '731'

UK metallers BORDERS have confirmed that they'll release their debut album Purify on 10th May 2019 via Long Branch Records.

To coincide with the announcement the band have released a video for '731', the first single from the album.

Purify will be available in vinyl, CD and digital formats, as well as BandCamp and Long Branch Records bundles. Pre-orders are available here:

BORDERS have also announced a run of UK shows in support of the album.

03.05.2019 - Manchester, Rebellion

04.05.2019 - Cardiff, Fuel

06.05.2019 - Brighton, Green Door Store

08.05.2019 - London, 229

09.05.2019 - Birmingham, Subside

10.05.2019 - Nottingham, Alberts

11.05.2019 - Lincoln, Liquor

12.05.2019 - Glasgow, 13th Note

Hailing from Lincoln, UK, BORDERS are pushing to lead in a new era of heavy music, seamlessly blending genres and styles to forge a crushing yet melodic and unique experience. Since joining forces with new vocalist Jordan 'JJ' Olifent in 2016, BORDERS have been working hard impressing crowds across the UK and Europe with their energetic, powerful live performance. From playing sold-out hometown shows, to supporting Skindred and Whitechapel and appearing at UK Tech-Fest, BORDERS consistently electrify crowds as unchained force Olifent leads the indomitable machine. Lunging from the crowd to the mic and leaving no spot unclaimed, he bends the crowd to his will with gang chants, mosh pits and room splits. While performing alongside Martyr Defiled on their UK/EU farewell tour, Metal Hammer said of their live show: "[Borders are] boasting an energised stage presence and an armada of head-bang-inducing grooves."

Speaking out on modern issues of healthcare, austerity and corruption, the band's Diagnosed EP was released in 2017. It received glowing reviews from Metal Hammer and more, as well as gaining regular radio play on Kerrang’s Fresh Blood, where Alex Baker hailed BORDERS as "behemoths of tomorrow." The songwriting, catchiness, technical prowess and sheer brutality of the record were standout points for critics. The EP theme hit home for Olifent as his lyrical content reflected his own mother’s experiences with cancer and the healthcare system. After she beat the disease with only natural remedies and lifestyle changes, Olifent seeks to pose questions on trust in the healthcare system and the corporate greed that drives pharmaceutical companies to put profits before people.

Purify is an ambitious full-length record which documents a timeline of human corruption; from the wartime atrocities of the Japanese experimental death camps in '731', to modern day political corruption in war, all the way to a bleak vision of future potential healthcare systems in 'Wake Up'. Purify is a statement on the condition of the world today, yesterday and tomorrow that not only sounds incredible but might change the way you look at the world around you. Olifent muses on the development of human corruption; the barbaric human beginnings of mass slaughter against targeted groups may seem a world away to the average citizen, but not only do those atrocities still exist, but corruption and evil has further retreated and disguised itself behind closed doors. A disguise that is easily lifted with information and a willingness to challenge one's own beliefs. Purify is a call for a purge of corruption and a call for the average person to think more about the world they inhabit.
