Introducing new rock band THE CROOKED 45: release single 'Voices on the Radio'

Introducing emerging UK rock trio THE CROOKED 45, who have released only their second ever single in the form of 'Voices on the Radio'.

Released 2nd October, you can purchase the single here:

Watch the video (premiered by Distorted Sound Magazine) here:

The band comment: “In the song we discuss the state of the media in the Western world – whilst people are distracted by celebrities and reality TV shows the West are causing atrocities across parts of the globe for financial gain. The leaders of the Western world use some media outlets as a mouth piece for politicians often to incite a ‘culture of fear’ which then can be used to get the public’s support and backing for these atrocities. In the video for 'Voices On The Radio' the people who come into contact with the TV and radio-waves become poisoned and sick. We hope this clearly compliments the song and the lyrics.”

A brand new band, THE CROOKED 45 are made up of ex-members of Attention Thieves, Alex Green and James Harris, with singer-songwriter Sam C Harris. Elements of Arctic Monkeys and Royal Blood combine to create anthemic riffy rock with a swagger, which has already seen support from BBC Introducing.

October 5th – Underbelly at Gig’s Hoxton, London, United Kingdom

Mexican melodic death metal newcomers AFTERFALL stream debut single

Mexican melodic death metal newcomers AFTERFALL stream debut single

Mexican melodic death metal band AFTERFALL have launched their debut single ‘Maere’, an impressive statement of intent from this hungry new band.

Watch ‘Maere’ here:

Fast melodic riffing, harmonised leads, breakdowns and half-time riffs are aplenty in AFTERFALL’s sound, and their incorporation of Middle-Eastern instruments and baroque orchestration shows they have no limits in terms of sonic experimentation.

Formed early 2019 in Mexico City, the quartet have wasted no time in producing their world-class metal sound, and 'Maere' is a powerful taste of what’s to come.

The band's lyrical themes are based on a fiction novel written by the members. The story centres on a character who experiences several traumatic and desperate events to protect the life of a young sibling, resulting in the person being transformed into a ruthless, cold-blooded psychopath.

The band comment: “Our single 'Maere' tells the story of the ruthless transformation of Anya (the older sister) being finally concluded, and how under the eyes of Élise (her younger sister), she is seen as an evil, untrustworthy and nefarious person. A demon who attacks children in their dreams; this demoniacal presence is called Maere."

In terms of the sound they added: “This song literally is pure energy; pure stamina”.

A full-length album is in the works, more information coming soon.

EXPLORING BIRDSONG announce debut EP and stream new single

Exploring Birdsong - 3.jpg

Hotly-tipped trio EXPLORING BIRDSONG have streamed their new single and video for 'The River', the first track taken from their debut EP The Thing With Feathers, released 29th November via Long Branch Records.

Stream or download the track here:

Premiered via Prog, you can now watch the video here:

Pre-order the EP here:

The band comment: "'The River' is the first song to be released under our new partnership with Long Branch Records, and is taken from our forthcoming debut EP, The Thing With Feathers.
It’s actually one of the first songs that was written as a trio not long after we started university, so to finally be releasing it is really exciting. Although taken from the conceptual idea that encompasses all of the songs on the EP, it focuses more specifically on the idea that, based on perception, good and evil are never too far from each other and you may never really fully be able to have one without the other.
As for the video, we’d jokingly thrown around the idea of filming in a water tank but assumed it to be too difficult to pull off. But, thanks to our director Shaun Hodson, it turned out way more beautiful than we ever imagined it could."

Rarely are new groups as exciting, talented or unique as EXPLORING BIRDSONG, the piano-led trio from Liverpool. Straddling the progressive pop and rock worlds, EXPLORING BIRDSONG are a band with limitless potential who deliver with their debut EP The Thing With Feathers.

Rarely too do you hear voices as captivating as frontwoman Lynsey Ward’s. Powerful, controlled, and spine-chillingly tender, Lynsey’s vocals help mark EXPLORING BIRDSONG as a prospect to watch, not least in the staggering ‘The Downpour’, described by the band as “our Great Gig In The Sky”. Also playing keyboards, she is backed by the jawdropping talents of Matt Harrison on drums/percussion and Jonny Knight on bass/second keyboards (sometimes performing both simultaneously).

The Thing With Feathers is broadly speaking a concept release, centred on the Seamus Heaney poem ‘Bye Child’ and the story of Kevin Halfpenny, one of the most bizarre cases of child cruelty ever recorded. This is mirrored in the EP title and cover art with broken backbones becoming broken wings. The title itself also references Emily Dickinson’s “’Hope’ is the thing with feathers” poem, which itself is a call-back to the music found within:

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

Having recently graduated from Liverpool’s Institute of Performing Arts, the young group have already caught the eyes of Prog Magazine, Kerrang! Magazine, Kerrang! Radio and Classic Rock Magazine, as well as achieved two Progressive Music Awards nominations in 2019. Having only released two singles at this point, EXPLORING BIRDSONG have been hand-picked to support Sleep Token, toured with proggers Godsticks, caught the attention of Florence and the Machine, and performed at HRH Prog. Unplaceable for the most part, the band bring to mind elements of Steven Wilson, Kate Bush, Rush, Sleep Token, and Agent Fresco.

04.10. UK, Manchester - Manchester Academy 3 /w Sleep Token (sold out)

Canadian hardcore/sludge quartet MINORS stream new single, 'Garden of Dismalism'

unnamed - 2019-09-30T150752.686.jpg

Acclaimed Canadian quartet MINORS have streamed the video for their highly personal song 'Garden of Dismalism'.

Premiered via Exclaim!, you can now watch the video here:

In the words of guitarist Nick Kinnish: "The lyrics for 'Garden of Dismalism' are pretty personal. So when we decided to create a video for the song, we wanted it to cover a separate concept entirely. We came up with an idea of two friends having a conversation about their fears, but instead of it helping to clear their minds, the conversation spirals into something else altogether. The rest of it, we will leave for the viewer to interpret for themselves."

The single is taken from MINORS' uncompromising sophomore LP Abject Bodies, released 22nd February via Holy Roar Records/Deathwish.

Order the record:

Fully intent on taking their listeners as far as they can, the quartet take you into the most oppressing and dismal place the mind can conjure: Abject Bodies is a caustic sea of feedback and grinding noise, reminiscent of the best experimental noise, sludge, and hardcore.

Since their first LP, Atrophy, MINORS have spent their time touring their native Canada, finding themselves sharing stages with the most familiar names in modern sludge and hardcore, including Primitive Man, Spectral Voice and Homewrecker.

In Spring 2018 the band crossed the pond to tour the UK with labelmates Watchcries before crafting this latest LP. For fans of Converge, Employed To Serve, Will Haven, the bleak and bitter, MINORS' Abject Bodies demands your attention.

Canadian Hardcore/Metal act VULTURES stream new single 'Bitter Breath'

Canadian Hardcore/Metal act VULTURES stream new single 'Bitter Breath'

Canadian metallic hardcore outfit VULTURES have released their new single 'Bitter Breath' from their forthcoming EP Hunger, due 4th October. The new track follows the band's weekend performing with Cancer Bats and Despised Icon.

Premiered via HeavyBlogIsHeavy, you can now listen to 'Bitter Breath' here:

Drummer Graham Scanlon comments: “'Bitter Breath' is Hunger’s resident slow-burner track. We would describe it as pensive, melancholy, and coarse, though like any artistic medium that will be subject to personal interpretation. This track represents a compositional intermission in forgoing the more chaotic sonic elements present within its EP counterparts, instead emphasising a more minimalistic quality of instrumental delivery influenced by acts like Defeater. 'Bitter Breath' was something of a unique songwriting experience for us in terms of how it utilizes reprise and motif, and the track also saw significant compositional input from producer Tim Creviston, who can be credited with really bringing this track to life. We chose this song as our third single as we believe it embodies a musical quality that acts as a strong counterpoint to the existing singles, and demonstrates our approach to a slower and more emotive form of hardcore.”

VULTURES convey an unapologetic and visceral energy through their brand of hardcore. With sonic inspirations that include the likes of ConvergeEvery Time I Die, and The Dillinger Escape Plan, the band combine the technicality and bite of metal with the attitude of hardcore punk in order to deliver performances with unrivalled potency and aggression and no little amount of fun.

VULTURES now prepare to release their second EP Hunger, six tracks that put forth an attack of driving riffs and incendiary finger-pointing in just under twenty minutes. Hunger was produced, mixed, and mastered by Tim Creviston (Misery SignalsSpiritbox), and features Larissa Stupar (Venom Prison) on track five, 'This Hunger'.

Initially playing local DIY house shows as a means of introducing themselves in 2016, VULTURES have since proceeded to support metal heavyweights Enterprise EarthArchspire, '68 and plenty more.

In the wake of this upcoming release, the band will broaden their horizons and make waves worldwide. VULTURES will embark on their largest tour yet in support of the EP, including their first foray into the USA.

BEING AS AN OCEAN release video for latest single 'Find Our Way'

Being As An Ocean 2019.png

American rock band, BEING AS AN OCEAN, have premiered the music video for their single 'Find Our Way' via Alternative Press. 'Find Our Way' is taken from the band’s fifth studio album, PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story, released earlier this month. The 14-track album is a concept record from the mind of frontman Joel Quartuccio.

Premiered via Alt Press, check out the video for 'Find Our Way' here:

On the video, guitarist Tyler Ross shares, “We just decided to get lost in London together. Four friends, no objectives; just having fun together and channelling the same vibe we started the band on eight years ago.”

Stream or purchase PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story here:

PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story stands as a monumental, year-long labour of love, sculpted and breathed into reality. Its inaugural single's music video lifts the veil on a vast creative world from which the band has pulled its inspiration and artistic guidance, exposing a narrative, not unlike our own; an existence experienced through the human lens of empathy, suffering, loss, longing, regret, reconciliation, sacrifice, joy, and love.

BEING AS AN OCEAN is the sound of the push and pull of circumstance versus ambition; of facts and figures overwhelmed by vibe and mystery. It’s a sonic landscape littered with stories of strength from weakness and the beauty in tragedy. It’s poetry in motion.

PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story is nothing short of a creative milestone for what was already a breathtaking band. Joel Quartuccio mines the depths of his psyche with distinctive power; Tyler
Ross evolves from songwriter and guitarist into co-producer; guitarist and melodic vocalist Michael McGough soars to new heights; co-founder and bassist Ralph Sica anchors the proceedings. BAAO charges forth into a brand new era.

Grammy-nominated producer and collaborator, Zakk Cervini (Blink-182, Poppy, Halsey) helped
the band to build these songs from the ground up in the studio. He also worked with them on
last year’s “Alone,” which emerged from the studio in just 12 hours. This new process carried
forward into the making of Proxy. Each song sprang from the collective. Nothing was
considered “finished” until everyone shared enthusiasm and satisfaction in the results.
Being As An Ocean is that rare heavy entity that offers a full experience for the head and the
heart. They stand out in a sea of rock sameness, filling an ocean of their own, embracing vibe
and spirit over precision and safety.

Fans can catch BEING AS AN OCEAN performing a heady mix of new tracks and fan favourites on their upcoming UK/European tour.

Alabama hardcore quartet GIDEON have released their gripping new single 'SLEEP'. The track is the third taste of their fifth full-length Out of Control, which is due for release on 11th October 2019 via Rude Records/Equal Vision Records.

Premiered via Metal Hammer, check out 'SLEEP' here:

'SLEEP' serves as a harsh retort to those that aim to limit the band by pinning them to one scene or defining their personal belief system. It skilfully combines their catchy blend of nu-metal influences with southern metalcore flare, resulting in a track that undoubtedly proves GIDEON are not interested in catering to anyone’s expectations with the release of Out of Control.

GIDEON will return to the UK and Europe later this year with Stray From The Path, The Devil Wears Prada and Loathe.

From a very early age, most of us are molded by the traditions of our upbringing. While there are undeniable benefits to tradition, often the fear of bucking against the expectations they create prevent us from pursuing our personal truth. Growing up in the deep south, the members of GIDEON spent years letting these mental fences dictate their creative direction. On their aptly titled fifth full-length album, Out of Control, the band is no longer allowing themselves to be put in a box, sonically or topically, to fit what is expected of them. Enhanced by its eclectic array of musical influences, including a heavy dose of 90s and 00s nu metal, clear inflections of outlaw country, and hip hop, Out of Control is a powerful statement of who the members of GIDEON really are and where they come from.
The members of GIDEON - Daniel McWhorter (Vocals), Tyler Riley (Guitar), Jake Smelley (Drums) and Caleb DeRusha (Bass) - have encountered a myriad of cultures while touring the world in support of their music. These opportunities led to the realisation that open-mindedness and acceptance are important aspects of developing your own perspective. As a result, they’ve grown away from their roots as a 'Christian Metalcore' band and through their last three records this transition becomes apparent. On 2014’s Calloused the band offered glimpses into their internal struggle with being a 'Christian' band. By the release of Cold in 2017, they emerged more bitter and aggressive; defiant in the face of expectations. Finally, Out of Control finds the band breaking free of all previous restraints as they craft a diverse record unlike anything they’ve ever released.

BATUSHKA announce European leg of Liturgy Of Death tour

BATUSHKA announce European leg of Liturgy Of Death tour

unnamed - 2019-09-23T143520.032.jpg

Following their triumphant performances at Bloodstock and Download festivals, Polish black metal band BATUSHKA return to the UK to play Islington Assembly Hall on the European leg of the Liturgy Of Death tour.

Dates announced for January 2020:

10/01 - Islington Assembly Hall, London, UK
11/01 - Doornroosje, Nijmegen, NL
12/01 - Le Machine du Moulin Rouge, Paris, FR
13/01 - Essigfabrik, Cologne, DE
15/01 - Uebel & Gefährlich, Hamberg, DE
16/01 - Columbia Theater, Berlin, DE
17/01 - Backstage Werk, Munich, DE
19/01 - Futurum Music Bar, Prague, CZ

Emerging from the shadows of eastern Poland back in 2015, black metal band BATUSHKA have established themselves as one of the modern era’s most powerful and evocative outfits. Harnessing the fire and fury of arcane black metal and channelling it through the reverberant grandeur of ancient rituals of worship, the band’s debut album Litourgiya stood apart from the extreme metal hordes: a monument to originality, depth and dark mysticism that swiftly cast its spell over the metal underground and beyond.

Earlier this year BATUSHKA released sophomore album Hospodi via Metal Blade Records. The album is available here:

Watch 'Utrenia', taken from Hospodi, here:

Named after an Old Church Slavonic word for “God,” Hospodi enhances all the unique qualities that made the band such an instant phenomenon, while offering an entirely distinct and fresh sensory experience. The album boasts the most ferocious and bewitching songs the band have penned to date — along with a newfound sense of rock swagger.

“The whole album is a concept based on the Liturgy of Death, the prayers for the dead, and Orthodox funeral rites and dirges,” said the band. “It’s all about a ritual that involves the dead and the mourners. We also used a lot of old folk songs and elegies from our homeland. These are sung during the wake, around the casket, in the deceased person’s home. Nowadays only a few older people know them and still sing them accordingly in our region. We decided to cherish that tradition and I’m glad that with our album these songs and rites will survive.”
