RADAR Festival 2024 announces three more acts and masterclass line-up

The award-winning, genre-busting RADAR Festival have announced three more acts for their stellar 2024 lineup: guitar genius Ichika Nito, American mathcore heavyweights Car Bomb, and local talents Atheana

Masterclasses for this year's event have also been announced. Attendees of RADAR Festival can witness some of the world's best musicians talking about their craft. The full masterclass line-up is as follows: Adam Janzi (VOLA),  Baard Kolstad (Leprous), Buster Odeholm (Humanity’s Last Breath, Thrown & Vildhjarta), Einar Solverg (Leprous), Henrik Linder (Dirty Loops), Plini, Jay Postones (TesseracT), Rabea Massaad (Vower and Frogleap), and Shawn Crowder and Adam Neely (Sungazer).

Ichika Nito“hottest guitarist in the world right now" was ranked No. 8 in the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" by the readers of Total Guitar, and RADAR promise something very special up our sleeve for this set - you’ll not want to miss it.

For the first time in five years, Car Bomb are back for a 2024 European exclusive. In 2019 they performed at the very first RADAR Festival - get ready to have your mind blown.

They're joined by Manchester locals Atheana, highlighting some of the wonderful talent from the festival's new home city.

RADAR 2024 will be headlined by synth royalty The Midnight (Friday night, UK festival debut), supported by Plini, Vola, among others; UK titans TesseracT will cap off Saturday's extravaganza with Dirty Loops, The Fall of Troy and more; and alongside Leprous will be jazz fusion group Sungazer, Humanity's Last Breath, and a host of the world's best, progressive musical acts.

Demonstrating their commitment to new bands, RADAR have also announced that they will be the first venue to donate a portion of ticket sales proceeds to Music Venue Trust, in order to support grassroots music venues.

Festival co-organiser Catherine Jackson-Smith comments: "That finish line is in sight!  We can announce three of the four final bands today playing which almost completes our 2024 lineup.  We’re so excited to have Ichika Nito at RADAR, and we have something pretty special planned for his performance!  Voted “one of the hottest guitarists in the world”, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the festival.

"
Car Bomb was a stand-out act from our first event and the chance to bring them back to Stage One was always on the cards once we moved.  It’s pointless explaining what to expect from their set - but you’ll experience it!

"Today we also announce the masterclasses, a feature of
RADAR that we treasure.  It’s a chance to interact with the artists and learn from the pinnacles of the industry.  They have moved this year into the main festival space and the intimate space is ideal for you to ask those burning questions and uncover more about the creative process of the pioneers we have performing at RADAR this year."

RADAR - the UK's most exciting new progressive music festival - moved to Manchester for its 2023 edition, the third iteration of the festival.

RADAR Festival 2023 was a smash success, with Friday headliners Sleep Token joining Periphery (Sunday) and Igorrr (Saturday) among a host of the best from the UK progressive underground and globally. RADAR pride themselves on providing a first home for the best international artists - previous years have seen Dirty Loops' (2022) and The Callous Daoboys' (2023) first UK shows.

RADAR capped their intensely impressive 2022 by winning the Best New Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards on 6th December in Manchester, and were shortlisted for Best Small Festival and Best Metropolitan Festival at 2023's UK Festival Awards.

With their mixture of international talent and confirmed homegrown success, RADAR Festival has already positioned themselves as a champion of forward-thinking guitar-led progressive music. No genre boundaries, welcome to all, RADAR Festival was launched in 2019 to acclaim, with performances from Animals As Leaders, Agent FrescoRolo Tomassi, among others. Following the COVID hiatus, RADAR Festival 2022 expanded to three days with triumphant appearances from Leprous, Haken, Dirty Loops, Plini, Conjurer, Soen and more.

RADAR Festival is all about pushing boundaries - this year introducing fresh genres to the lineup and stages - and this is just the beginning.

US crossover unit Take Offense stream thrash-fuelled new single

Cali thrashers Take Offense have released their new single 'S.W.O.', the third taken from their upcoming album T.O.tality out 10th May via MNRK Heavy.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/KaV1OlBZgXQ

Pre-order / pre-save T.O.tality here: https://takeoffense.ffm.to/totality.OYD

New single 'S.W.O' (Split Wide Open) plunges into Slayer-like fury, chugging ahead at near impossible speeds while taking time out to throw in impressive fretboard gymnastics and a few dive bombs. The track isn’t just senseless savagery though, as vocalist Anthony Herrera explains that the underlying inspiration stems from emotional vulnerability. “‘Split Wide Open’ is about being a writer and putting yourself out there. These things can be very personal, but they also mean a lot to others too.”

Take Offense forge ahead towards new frontiers on their forthcoming album T.O.tality. After nearly two decades of grinding and the accompanying blood/sweat, Take Offense have mastered their craft, reaching the pinnacle of their expansive sound. T.O.tality, their fourth overall album and label debut for MNRK Heavy, is marked with a sense of modernity - incorporating the hard-driving ethos of thrash, the finesse of speed metal, the sneering tenacity of hardcore all while nodding to their home of Southern California.

Take Offense look toward the tone and attitude of their California counterparts - bands like EXCEL and Suicidal Tendencies who also leaned heavily into skate aesthetics but worshipped sunset strip-and-adjacent guitar dieties like Warren Di Martini and Eddie Van Halen. T.O.tality is a love letter to that scene and those times, delivered in the form of an armada of fourteen nitro-equipped tracks that explode through barricades of genre convention and emptying the clip with fresh ideas. It’s a tribute to local heroes with familiar approaches that are wholly and undoubtedly Take Offense.

Much like previous recordings, tracking for T.O.tality took place with Nick Jett (Terror) and the band serving as producers. But conflicting schedules between Herrera, guitarist Greg Cerwonka, bassist Randy Noyes, drummer Mitch Reitman and rhythm guitarist Ricky Garcia caused the recording of the much anticipated follow-up to Cause & Effect to be drawn out– writing commenced in Summer 2021 and tracking was completed in June 2023, with Matt Hyde (Slayer, No Doubt, Deftones) handling the mixing and Nick Townsend on mastering duty. “We’re incredibly proud of the record, and feel like it really represents who we are and where we’re from. But it was really a strenuous one to make and at points it felt like we might not get it done,” admits Greg. There were scheduling issues and complications around the pandemic, and on top of that Greg played in the live lineup of Turnstile for a while, so that added another layer. Regardless of all that, T.O.tality is here, and a big step forward.

And while only a cursory listen is needed to know that T.O.tality is a massive evolutionary step forward for the band, a detailed listen reveals the attention given with respect to lyricism and storytelling by frontman Anthony Herrera. Familiar lyrical themes from previous releases still ring true, but Herrera also called upon his own upbringing to add in themes surrounding existentialism, politics, soldiering forward and leaving regret behind. “I feel like I didn't hold back on things I wanted to say. It’s even in the title of the record– totality,” admits Herrera. “Certain tracks on the record have references to Mexica, which are beliefs that go back to early Mexico– something that I grew up with. When I was younger, I don’t think it was as easy for me to express certain things into words. I think things come easier now and I feel like I put it all out there. So I'm very proud to be at this point– I feel like we are stronger than ever, and with the new record we are the best version of who we are.”

Take Offense have confirmed a run of spring Cali and East Coast shows that routes them through San Diego, San Francisco, Richmond, NYC and more.

HammerFall announce new album, stream first single

Today, HammerFall proudly announce their 13th studio album Avenge The Fallen, which will be released on 9th August via Nuclear Blast Records.

To celebrate, the band have revealed the first song from the album, 'Hail To The King'.

Less than a year after taking the final bow of their United Forces tour, the quintet of guitarist Oscar Dronjak, singer Joacim Cans, bass player Fredrik Larsson, guitarist Pontus Norgen, and drummer David Wallin are back with ten brand new solid pieces of classic heavy metal.

“This is our 13th album”Joacim Cans says with pride. “How do you still stay relevant after 13 albums? It’s very much like the opening line to the song 'Avenge The Fallen': “What is the worst, be the one who died, or be the one who survived.”

“Think about it, because it is a tough question”.

He continues, “Do we want to be a band who releases new music just for the sole reason of getting out on the road again or do we want to keep pushing and challenging ourselves? In times where people have less and less attention span, we still think in the form of full-length albums. A few good songs don’t make a strong album. A strong album comes from an album full a great songs and that’s what we’re delivering with Avenge The Fallen.”

To give a taste of what awaits the fans, the band unleashes the first single and video 'Hail To The King'. A song that was born on the road....

I began working on 'Hail To The King' while on tour in the US with HelloweenOscar Dronjak recalls. “By the end of the tour, I was getting close to wrapping the song up, so straight after the Los Angeles gig I headed to the bus where I worked like a mad man to get the last pieces together. That turned out to be the show where one of my favourite wrestlers, Chris Jericho, came to visit. It was also the show where Fredrik met his idol Frank Bello from Anthrax and Joacim met Jay Ruston, producer for Armored Saints, Avatar, Anthrax, Corey Taylor and more and whom after this meeting agreed to produce the vocals for Avenge The Fallen! I missed all that, but I at least got a great song out of it, haha!”

'Gravity' drags listeners through a gut-wrenching journey of despair and darkness with its hard-hitting lyrics and intense delivery. The single grips you with its portrayal of crushing burden and isolation - a bold statement on mental struggles, cementing its place as a standout in Alleviate's repertoire and a significant leap for Nik Nocturnal in his artistic evolution.

Upon releasing their debut single 'Die For Me', Alleviate gained fans across the globe. Famous internet reactors like Nik Nocturnal and Too Lit Mafia supported their powerful sound, which combines technical riffs, heavy breakdowns, and catchy hooks.

Alleviate stand for the strength that's hidden deep inside us all. Formed in 2020, the band consists of five successful musicians from five different bands across a variety of metal sub-genres. They combine the best of technical metalcore, deathcore, djent and post-hardcore in one powerful and beautiful style. The members have proven themselves numerous times in previous and current bands. They've played hundreds of shows and are experienced live performers.

The name Alleviate itself represents what the band stands for; giving hope and spreading a positive message into the world.

Pallbearer release new single 'Endless Place'

Pallbearer have released a second song from their highly-anticipated new album, Mind Burns Alive, due 17th May via Nuclear Blast Records.

The deeply moving 'Endless Place' can be streamed here:
https://pallbearer.bfan.link/endless-place.ema

Watch the complementary, visually striking black-and-white video here: https://youtu.be/2bA3ygVT0q4

'Endless Place', which features the band’s first ever musical collaboration (a saxophone solo from Norman Williamson of Amasa Hines), encapsulates the thematic essence of the album, as described by vocalist-guitarist Brett Campbell: “These are vignettes which tell the stories of people who deal with myriad sicknesses of the spirit. These are illnesses communicated by the world we live in, and the subjects are the symptoms of its disease.” The dreamlike scenario that enfolds in 'Endless Place', both lyrically and musically, is one focused on a sense of being lost, disjointed, trapped by unease and confusion.

Pallbearer previously released the Dan Almasy-directed video for 'Where The Light Fades'. The lead track from the six-song album also highlights the emotionally-charged themes on the collection.

Five years in the making, with recording initially slated for 2020, and thwarted yet again in 2022, it was 2023 that saw the band members living locally to one another in Little Rock for the first time in nine years. As a group, they self-produced the album in their own, newly constructed studio (Idlewild Audio) and at Fellowship Hall Sound. Reflecting on this, bassist-vocalist Joseph D. Rowland remarked, “It’s ironic given that the album is largely centered around isolation, but it felt like it summoned us into being back together again in one town, after so long apart.”

Mind Burns Alive pre-orders, which include limited-edition vinyl, CD and digital, are available now: https://pallbearer.bfan.link/mind-burns-alive.ema.

Pallbearer also recently announced the Temporary Spaces North American Tour, a six-week North American outing that kicks off on 6th June. Openers include Rwake (6-9th June, 29th June), REZN (11-29th June), Inter Arma (11th July-August 3rd), with The Keening opening on all dates. The band has also confirmed three special European performances: The Copenhell Metal Cruise (Copenhagen to Oslo) from 25-27th October, Hell’s Ball Belgium (Kortrijk) on 9th November, and Helldorado in Eindhoven (The Netherlands) on 16th November. All ticketing links can be found at Pallbearerdoom.com.

Pallbearer are Brett Campbell (vocals/electric guitar/synthesiser), Devin Holt (electric and acoustic guitar/vocals), Mark Lierly (drums/percussion) and Joseph D. Rowland (vocals/bass guitar/synthesizer). The Little Rock, Arkansas based band formed in 2008 and have since released four albums: Forgotten Days (2020), Heartless (2017), Foundations of Burden (2014) and Sorrow and Extinction (2012). In their review of Forgotten Days, Pitchfork described the foursome’s music as “soaring majesty on an album that find a new way forward by refining their past,” Stereogum dubbed the collection as “warm and melodic and comforting,” while Revolver said the songs are “sweeping and melancholic” living “between the majesty of vintage Black Sabbath and the morbid romanticism of Type O Negative.” Decibel have featured the band on their cover multiple times, declaring the band’s unique musical vision as “intense, emotional thunder.”

Decibel

ACCEPThave never shied away from hot button issues, and this album is no exception. Yet the band’s 17th studio album is certainly not a concept album. It deals with topics like AI and how our reliance on technology is gradually stripping away our individuality.ACCEPToffers a warning in this new album and title track singleHumanoid. Since singerMark Tornillowill never be an advocate for the digital age, he counterbalances the title track with raw emotions, frailties, significant Rites of Passage we encounter on the path of life and characteristics that make us uniquely human: feeling uncomfortable, getting older, dealing with hurt, disappointment, and the final stop for everyone: death.

Rising German pop-punk band Indecent Behavior have signed a worldwide record deal with Long Branch Records ahead of a busy festival summer, which will take them to the stages of Rock am Ring, Rock im Park and Full Force, among others.

"I'm very happy that we were able to convince Indecent Behavior of Long Branch Records and I'm looking forward to opening a new chapter in the band's history together with the guys," comments Manuel Schönfeld (Label Manager Long Branch Records and Managing Director SPV) on the signing. "Indecent Behavior are THE rising stars of the German pop-punk scene and are reaping the rewards of their dedicated groundwork this year, especially live. The band now have a perfectly harmonising team around them and will soon be making more headlines."

Singer Henrik Bergmann adds: "We are super happy about our signing with Long Branch Records. We already had a lot of ideas during the negotiations and are really looking forward to the creative collaboration!"

Produced by Phil Gornell (All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon, Hot Milk), the latest album Therapy In Melody (released on 12th May 2023) impressively conveys hope, support and perhaps also provides a new perspective or two. The single 'I Love Goodbyes' spent over 15 weeks in the official German radio airplay charts and peaked at #12 in the rock sector.

"This quartet manages to release so much energy in such an authentic way that, in terms of potential, they would have swept the DONOTS off the Waldbühne (Berlin) back in their 'Pocket Rock' days."  MoreCore

"Indecent Behaviour manages to create a good portion of variety and entertainment from the first to the last song." Fuze

US deathcore heavyweights Bodysnatcher have announced their eagerly-anticipated upcoming EP, Vile Conduct, to be released digitally 3rd September via MNRK Heavy

In celebration of the news, the band have released their latest single 'Severed' and the accompanying official music video.

When asked about the inspiration behind the single drop, Bodysnatcher vocalist Kyle Medina commented: “The track 'Severed' is about coming to terms with the sour feelings of resentment, hatred, anger, or betrayal, and completely and utterly letting go. Becoming fed up and accepting of these feelings is when you can finally let go and no longer even care for their existence, which is the best revenge.”

The band previously unleashed 'Murder8' featuring Hatebreed's Jamey Jasta and announced an early vinyl-only release of Vile Conduct for Record Store Day.

The new single continues Bodysnatcher's rise as one of the most exciting new bands in deathcore. Recently they've toured across the US, as headliners (with support from Angelmaker, Paleface, and Distant), and supporting Lorna Shore and Shadow of Intent. Bodysnatcher are currently on a huge UK/EU run with Spite and Mouth for War, decimating audiences across the continent.

An epically unashamed demonstration of aggression, Bodysnatcher's music is dark, furious, and threatening. It’s a sound born from the burden of struggle and an unwavering commitment to continued survival against all obstacles.

About Bodysnatcher:

Drawing their name from the infamous Plainfield Ghoul, Ed Gein, Bodysnatcher know a thing or two about darkness, brutality and aggression. Since their 2014 inception in Melbourne, Florida, Bodysnatcher have been bringing nothing but the finest in furious, extreme music. Combining crushing breakdowns with eerie ambience, scathing riffs and grisly grooves, the band have become synonymous with “heavy,” invoking violence in every city they happen to visit, spawning mosh pits that leave nothing but craters in their wake.

With each release, Bodysnatcher have added depth to their dynamic, proving they are an ever-growing and changing act with the singular purpose of absolutely obliterating the listener. In 2015, mere months after their formation, the act exploded into the worldwide underground with the release of their debut EP, Abandonment. Considered one of the “Rushmore” releases of the American Downtempo wave, Abandonment took Bodysnatcher around the country, delivering breakdowns and broken bones to venues from Southern Florida to California. The band’s debut full-length that followed, Death of Me (Stay Sick Records), saw the band mature from their modest downtempo roots into something more diverse and devastating, incorporating a blend of contemporary metal and hardcore elements to create something that saw Bodysnatcher start to blur conventional genre lines. Death of Me would skyrocket the band’s notoriety even higher, including a headlining west coast tour with Extortionist (Unique Leader Records) in support. Almost immediately after the release of Death of Me, Bodysnatcher underwent a significant line-up change, bringing aboard Chris Whited (King Conquer, 1776 Recordings) as percussionist and producer alongside Kyle Carter (Beacons) and Kyle Shope (Float Face Down) on guitar and bass respectively. With all three of them working alongside the titanic range and unmistakable vitriol of frontman Kyle Medina as songwriters, a deluxe re-release of their debut LP featuring five all-new songs followed not long after the line-up was cemented. Those songs segued Bodysnatcher into a new sound and style that would not fully materialise until their two follow-up releases, This Heavy Void (2020) and Bleed-Abide (2022). These records together would not only see the band signing with premier heavy music label MNRK Heavy, but would also highlight the band’s unique ability to blend harrowingly personal tales of love and loss with blistering aggression. Between This Heavy Void’s 'Twelve/Seventeen' and Bleed-Abide’s 'Smashed Perception', the band seemed to encompass the alpha and omega of all things eviscerating—emotionally or, well, literally.

Since Bleed-Abide, Bodysnatcher have continued their tireless grind, touring across the country with the likes of AngelMaker, Hatebreed, Dying Fetus, Emmure, We Came as Romans and more—and spending plenty of time inoculating overseas lands with their unique concoction of crushing brutality as well. 2024 witnesses the band depart for not one, but two colossal ventures with former label mates Spite—across both Europe and the continental United States. From their earnest beginnings as one of the United States’ premiere exporters of bludgeoning, beefy breakdowns to now one of the country’s most renowned heavy music exports, Bodysnatcher are a peerless example of hard work, dedication and—of course—devastating heaviness.
