“'The Curse' is a song about feeling like the universe is against you, trying to sabotage your every endeavour despite your best efforts to achieve something,“ comments singer Cherry Duesbury. “The feeling of being just a little too late, or pipped to the post, and having to start over again. To demonstrate this, it references the individual struggles of trying to be creative in an oversaturated industry, focusing on the internal fortitude required to not only persevere but to enjoy creativity for its own sake. By making these fears and inadequacies into a character, we wanted to show how powerful this feeling of being cursed can seem, and the importance of recognising and accepting it as part of yourself."

A proven hit on the live circuit, Defences have numerous U.K. tours with multiple sell-out headline shows under their belts, as well as festival appearances including Download, Takedown, Turbulence and Burn It Down. With soon-to-be-announced new material, live shows and the support of their strong fan community cultivated in their #TheHeart fan page, 2024 promises to be a big year for the quintet.

Cherry Duesbury comments on the new video: "The video shoot was really fun - it was the first time Shadow Cherry was on set for anything. She's an idea I've had in my head for some time, so it felt quite surreal to have her come to fruition in front of the camera. A really liberating side of me comes out when I'm made up like that, which I think we've started to capture in this video.

"It was an exciting shoot for us; we hadn't shot a music video for a couple of years. It was our first official shoot with Owen on bass, and Will on keys, and we were all stoked to finally bring the ideas we'd been working on to life!

"We used more props and cool visual elements for this video than I think we ever had before. So many candles, which I really enjoyed! I always have candles lit at home. We're really leaning into the witchy aesthetic for this era, which is right up my street. I was sat in a circle of them for one of the shots, it felt like I was having a seance, I loved it!"

Fronted by vocalist David Häusermann, guitarist and vocalist Mauro Gugerli, guitarist Tristan Meier, bassist Loris De Notaristefano and drummer Michael Teufelberger, Vicious Rain continue to carve their mark on the alternative music scene.

With 'Like A Nightmare', Vicious Rain take another step forward in their musical journey. This single promises to be a compelling addition to their growing catalogue, showcasing the band‘s emotional depth and raw power. Get ready for a sonic experience that challenges your perspective. This is Vicious Rain, and 'Like A Nightmare' is their latest chapter.

Following the path paved by their third single, 'Crown Of Thorns'Vicious Rain pour their heart and soul into every note. The band‘s dedication to their craft and the sheer passion they exude leaves no doubt that their future is bright.

Vocalist David Häuserman comments:

"'Like A Nightmare' is all about the messy side of love. It‘s like being drawn to something you
know will hurt you, but you can‘t help yourself. The song captures that feeling of being stuck in a cycle of desire and pain, leaving you feeling hopeless and trapped."

Formed in late 2022, Vicious Rain are an alternative metalcore band from Baden, Switzerland. The group combine intertwined singing/screaming vocals with anthemic singalongs, screaming melodic leads and crushing breakdowns, as they embrace everything from the heavy side of the genre all the way to the more intimate melodies. The band‘s spirit is marked by their shared belief in the importance of solidarity, and the role of the individual accomplishment of a common vision. Lyrically, the Swiss quintet wholeheartedly express their stance on personal matters, while highlighting their belief that self-reflection is the key to growth.

Full of Hell reveal video for new single 'Coagulated Bliss'

American grindcore outfit Full of Hell will release their brand new full-length Coagulated Bliss on 26th April via Closed Casket Activities. Ahead of the album release the band have unveiled the title track together with a new music video directed by by Will Mecca.

Dylan Walker comments: “This song is a lyrical summation of the record as a whole. Seeking the unattainable. Drowning in it.”

Spencer Hazard adds: “Dave and I wrote this song with a band like Today is the Day in mind. Noisy guitar and jazzy drums but a riff that gets stuck in your head.

Full of Hell burst forth with incredible force from the small, dagger-shaped city of Ocean City, Maryland, 15 years ago. Over five full-lengths, five collaborative full-lengths, and countless splits, EPs, singles, and noise compilations, they’ve evolved at extraordinary speed, their music becoming more complicated and technical without ever slowing down or losing its soul. Everything on a Full of Hell album feels like a blur: smears of guitar, harsh noise shaken like gravel in a bag, singer Dylan Walker’s snarl and bite carrying him into outer space or into the core of the earth. They’re coiled, interlocking, impossible to penetrate, and they move with alarming speed.

They have now reached terminal velocity. Having created their own context, they’re now able to walk around within it, to survey its terrain, to visit far corners and see who’s nearby. Their forthcoming album, Coagulated Bliss, sounds like Full of Hell, but it’s nothing like any Full of Hell record that’s come before it. These songs are trimmer, less freighted with anxiety, more interested in opening up than speeding away. Its bile is sometimes funnelled into traditional song structures. It never shies away from the extreme harsh noise, unrelenting spirit, and pitch-black sadness of previous Full of Hell records; if anything, the leanness of these songs makes them feel even heavier. Nevertheless, there are tracks here you might find yourself whistling hours after listening. It’s an extraordinary and unexpected evolution in sound for a band who made their name on rapid metamorphosis, and it’s the logical endpoint of everything Full of Hell has covered so far. “I wanted to try to take every aspect of what we’ve done from previous releases and integrate it into this one,” guitarist Spencer Hazard says.

These songs feel huge, totemic, groundshaking. Take the album's first single, 'Doors to Mental Agony'— which premieres today alongside a music video directed by Erich Richter— which sets up a circle pit, then blasts it apart with a grindcore chorus, and slides away on a slanted riff.

Coagulated Bliss was written and recorded shortly after Full of Hell completed When No Birds Sang, their collaborative album with Nothing. Working with the Philadelphia shoegazers gave Full of Hell new insight into the emotional and artistic power of classic pop songwriting, and to the importance of following a song where it wants to go. “That was a good experience of learning how to find what actually services a song,” Hazard says. “Even with Roots of Earth Are Consuming My Home, even when we’ve had an extreme grindcore influence, I still wanted it to be catchy.” Walker also cites the band’s work with The Body for helping him to “recognize that there was value in pop music.” Accordingly, Coagulated Bliss features some of Full of Hell’s strongest songwriting: Gone is the frenetic flailing of Garden of Burning Apparitions and Weeping Choir; in its stead is a richer, thicker sound, one that’s considerably less ornamented—and somehow heavier than ever.

While the focus on songwriting already makes Coagulated Bliss the most grounded album in Full of Hell’s catalogue, it’s also the first Full of Hell record that tries in earnest to reflect the world around it—not in some broad, monotony-of-evil way, but the everyday horrors of life in small town America. Three of the four members of the band were raised in Ocean City. Hazard and Bland still live there, while Walker is located in central Pennsylvania and bassist Samuel DiGristine relocated to Philadelphia. “The American dream is small towns,” Hazard says. “But anyone that’s grown up in a small town realizes it’s just as f*cked up in a small town as it is in a big city—if not more, because it’s more condensed.”

Walker’s lyrics have always framed their suffering with what he calls “fantastical, metaphorical sh*t,” but on Coagulated Bliss his writing is clear and direct. The album’s title is meant partly to reflect the idea of the over-pursuit of happiness leading to misery—whether in addiction, greed, or anything else. “Your happiness is just out of reach and you don’t know why,” he says. “Too much of this bliss, you think you’ve found your endpoint, but it’s really just this small, tiny, little thing that’s going to ruin your f*cking life. And that could be anything."  The album’s viciousness and Walker’s clear reading of the world around him might scan as misanthropy, but it comes from a place of disappointment that’s driven by a deep love for people and life and the world. “There’s not a lot of anger, to be honest,” he says. “I’ve never felt anger when we’re playing, ever. It feels like electricity that’s built up in my body that has to get out. But I feel more profoundly sorrowful than I ever do anger.”

The world may be in a constant state of bitter flux, but Full of Hell have never sounded more at home in it. “We’ve shed any kind of ‘do we belong in this space, what do people expect of us,’” Walker says. “The joy is in the pursuit.” The loosening of their grip on the direction of their music has made it feel paradoxically closer to the bone. “People tend to burrow themselves so deeply into things they love,” Walker says. “It’s too much of a good thing, and it almost cheapens it.” By paring back their sound, Full of Hell aren’t just finding a new way forward: They’re proving that a little bit less of a good thing can add up to so much more.

See Full of Hell on the road in April and May across North America with Dying Fetus.

Coagulated Bliss was recorded at Developing Nations in Baltimore by Kevin Bernstein, mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit Recording Studio in Van Nuys California and mastered by Nick Townsend of Infrasonic Sound in Los Angeles California. Full of Hell is Spencer Hazard (guitar/electronics), David Bland (drums/vocals), Samuel DiGristine (bass/sax/vocals), and Dylan Walker (vocals/electronics/lyrics), with new guitarist Gabriel Solomon joining following the album’s completion.

One Step Closer release new single 'Orange Leaf'

Melodic hardcore heroes One Step Closer have released their new single 'Orange Leaf'. The track is taken from the band's highly anticipated album All You Embrace, due for release on 17th May via Run For Cover Records.

Check out the video for 'Orange Leaf' here: https://youtu.be/-JNS4W_B3Cc

Stream 'Orange Leaf' here: https://osc.lnk.to/orangeleaf

Pre-order All You Embrace here: https://lnk.to/OSC-AllYouEmbrace

All You Embrace boldly expands the scope of One Step Closer's sound, offering their most anthemic and passionate work to date. 'Orange Leaf' follows earlier singles 'Leap Years' and 'Giant's Despair' (which garnered attention from the likes of BBC Radio 1, Stereogum, BrooklynVegan, AltPress, Uproxx, and more), and offers another glimpse of the band's evolution on All You Embrace. Packing plenty of post-hardcore bite and a soaring chorus, the track proves that OSC are just as deft with melody as they are with aggression.

The album follows 2021's This Place You Know and 2023's Songs For The Willow, which catapulted One Step Closer into the ranks of the most exciting new bands coming out of hardcore. All You Embrace makes good on all of that potential, leaning into the most melodic elements of the band's sound without sacrificing an ounce of energy. The album finds One Step Closer exploring the sonic overlaps of hardcore, emo, '90s alternative, and more - resulting in the most ambitious songs they've ever written.

“I wanted to showcase One Step Closer in its fullest state,” explains vocalist Ryan Savitski. “Every single part of the band, I wanted it to be there. I wanted us to be 100% ourselves and be as authentic to our band as we could possibly be.” And All You Embrace is certainly imbued with that sense of identity, a testament to knowing who you are in a world of uncertainties, and a powerful new era for One Step Closer.

One Step Closer are touring non-stop in support of All You Embrace. Their next round of shows sees them heading to the UK and EU, including an appearance at Slam Dunk Festival.

UK dates:

May 25: Hatfield, Slam Dunk Festival
May 26: Leeds, Slam Dunk Festival

Jinjer comment on 'Pisces': “We somehow missed the point when ‘Pisces’ became more than just a good song for so many people... Only years after its release, we are only now starting to comprehend how people relate to this track, how much it has done for us as a band and why it is so special for so many people. It is always a huge pleasure to perform it live and to hear you sing along. It is almost a spiritual experience…”

Recorded and filmed on 22nd December 2022, Live in Los Angeles marks a celebration of the band’s 15 years of success, capturing the energy of their renowned live performances. Known for their relentless touring, the band has played at major festivals worldwide, including Hellfest, Rock Am Ring, Graspop Metal Meeting and Rocklahoma USA. They’ve also headlined sold-out shows across Europe and North America, as well as thrilling audiences in destinations like Dubai, Philippines, Turkey, Japan and South Africa. This live DVD/BluRay promises to be a showcase of Jinjer's global impact and unrivaled stage presence.

Live in Los Angeles was a spontaneous decision by the band, recorded as raw as possible, to emphasise the passion that can come from a live show. This release is an explosive mixture of Jinjer’s discography - featuring fan favorites like 'Sit Stay Roll Over', 'Home Back' and the game-changing 'Pisces'. The live album contains 16 songs in various audio formats, with some strictly limited: the Deluxe Digipack features not only a DVD, but also two more songs, 'Wallflower' & 'Disclosure!', recorded in Paris in 2023.

With feisty growls and soul-shattering clean vocals, the live energy of frontwoman Tatiana Shmayluk presented on Live in Los Angeles leaves the listener breathless, whilst lethally groovy riffs and multifarious drums culminate to a technical masterpiece, cutting sharp like a razorblade. Live in Los Angeles is Jinjer at the top of their game - breaking every rule in heavy metal by doing things their very own way, and preparing fans for the next step of their world domination.

Jinjer commented on Live in Los Angeles“Our sold-out Los Angeles show at the end of our 2022 tour was the perfect time and place to do something special - something like a long awaited DVD/live album by Jinjer. The totally packed, legendary venue, the crazy west coast vibes, and most importantly, the band delivering it with full force after being on tour for six months around the globe - from Europe to Australia and back to the USA - made this an extra special night. For the fans who joined us that night at The Wiltern, it was an unforgettable concert, but now every single Jinjer supporter around the world can experience and enjoy an ideal set featuring our biggest hits from older albums as well as recent bangers. This is not just a DVD or a live album, but a celebration of the first 15 years of the Jinjer story, right before we move on to the next chapter…”

Jun 10: Bridgwater The Cobblestones
Jun 11: Preston The Ferret
Jun 12: Plymouth The Junction
Jun 13: Bristol The Exchange
Jun 14: Southampton The Joiners
Jun 16: Newcastle Trillians
Jun 18: Birmingham Asylum2

Aug 09: London The Underworld

Dubbed the “favorite young metal band of the moment” by Ghost mastermind Tobias Forge, this is another piece of evidence that the path these four women tread leads in only one direction: unstoppably to the top.

Addictive track 'Stronghold' shines as one of the most detailed and melodic tracks on Shades of Sorrow.

Stream 'Stronghold' here: https://youtu.be/lEDFyLJQy8c

Following Crypta’s successful recent European tour, the quartet will head out on a longer South
American run and a full North American tour in early 2024.

On Shades of Sorrow, the band stays true to their unique sound that was introduced on their first full-length, blending classic and modern death metal with significant extreme and black metal elements.

Fernanda Lira (bass, vocals) on Shades of Sorrow: "Shades of Sorrow is a semi-concept album which describes a journey through the depths of our psyche when facing tough battles. It's a trip to the many shades of pain we sometimes have to face while enduring our lives’ challenges. The songs are the perfect gloomy, dark, emotional soundtrack for this journey."

It is clear that the talented women of Crypta have created another impressive masterpiece with Shades of Sorrow, presenting the very best of their technical ability and songwriting skills on this 13-track onslaught. Shades of Sorrow was recorded at Family Mob Studio, mixed by Daniel Bergstrand at 33 Stockholm, Sweden and mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studio.

Prog-metallers Exist Immortal release new single/video 'Dreamscape'

UK prog-metal outfit Exist Immortal return with another catchy, melodic banger, 'Dreamscape', which further showcases the band’s songwriting prowess. The accompanying video showcases the band’s most recent Japanese run supporting the legendary Cynic, which can be seen below.  The band also just announced a slew of UK shows (see below).

Watch the music video here: https://youtu.be/HmNyyix0rmQ

Exist Immortal state: “We are excited to present our new song, ‘Dreamscape,’ to the world. It is about escapism into a simulated/enhanced world, contrasting reality with a digital realm as a metaphor for seeking inner peace and creative freedom. There’s also a struggle to find tranquility in a chaotic world and the power of imagination in overcoming personal conflicts.

"We always wanted to make a cool video for a new song while we were in Japan, but once this song came about we realised it was the perfect candidate. It’s a super upbeat and energetic song and it perfectly mirrored the energy everyone was bringing while we were on that trip. On top of that, it was kinda like a dream in itself - going away with a bunch of your friends to play amazing shows with legends like
Cynic is something a past version of us would barely believe was actually happening!

"This is the second of a whole bunch of new singles we are going to be running full campaigns for this year and so far we’re stoked on the way this release format is working out. Every single song gets the full attention it deserves and we are super confident in all of them.

"To us, this song is a great representation of how it feels when you’re literally living the dream and doing things together that we are really proud of. Its got energy, its got heaps of nice melodies, its got super heavy parts and most importantly its a little bit of everything we love. It was also a really cool opportunity to emulate some of the more upbeat and catchy elements that we love about other music whilst still bringing the super low and heavy sections that seem to be coming out whenever we write together. We hope you enjoy it."

Exist Immortal have announecd the following shows, with support from label mates My Favourite Nemesis:

May 23: The Hairy Dog, Derby
May 24: Fighting Cocks, Kingston

'Dreamscape' follows previous single 'Play Pretend'.

Hailing from the Southeast of England, Exist Immortal combine metalcore and technical metal with pop influences and have spent the last few years touring across the world developing their sound, growing their fanbase and leaving a lasting impact on audiences that witness the powerful live show.
The band have played festivals such as Metaldays (SLOV), Euroblast (GER), Maximum Rock (ROM), Complexity Fest (NL) and have toured with high profile acts such as Sikth, Textures, Landmvrks and Cynic. EXIM have also headlined the main stage at UK Tech Fest (2022), and in 2023 completed sold out tours in Mexico and most recently Japan, ending what has been a whirlwind year of highlights, cementing the band as one of the hottest acts in the progressive metal/metalcore scene.
Following on from their self-titled album (November 2022 via Seek & Strike) which received universal acclaim from the music press and fans alike, and projecting the band to new levels, EXIM are excited to present their latest offering 'Play Pretend' to the world, beginning a new era for the band.

During 2020 Henshall started work on his Mu collection, a trilogy of EPs that explore his love for jazz-infused, intricate instrumental music. The EPs will be released throughout 2024 and promise to be some of his most richly textured, adventurous music to date. Richard is joined by drummer Lang Zhao and saxophonist Adam Carillio, while he handles guitar, bass & keyboard duties.

On the Mu EP and launch single 'Yang' he comments: "I got the initial rhythmic idea for Mu on a flight home from a Haken tour just before the lockdown kicked off in the UK. Little did I know that it’d end up being the catalyst for a trilogy of jazz-tinged, instrumental EPs. The rhythmic powerhouse, Lang Zhao, is on the drums and his highly creative playing style has really elevated these arrangements to new levels. This new collection of songs has a strong focus on rhythm and explores some new ground for me as a writer and guitar player. I can’t to share what I’ve cooked up with everyone."

Richard Henshall is a composer, guitarist and keyboardist hailing from London, England. He is acclaimed for his work as founding member of progressive metal juggernaut Haken, as well as his endeavours as a solo artist. Henshall has been named as Music Radar’s no. 11 'best prog guitarist’ and in Guitar World’s ‘top 15 best prog rock guitarist’.

In 2014, Henshall joined forces with Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs and formed Nova Collective. Together they wrote the critically acclaimed ‘The Further Side’, which draws influences from the likes of Chick Corea and Mahavishnu Orchestra. In 2017, Henshall, alongside his Haken bandmates, featured in Mike Portnoy’s Shattered Fortress performing the songs of Dream Theater for a year of very special shows around the world.

In 2019, Henshall completed work on his ambitious debut solo album, entitled The Cocoon, which features Jordan Rudess as well as host of other guests. The music ranges from dense polyrhythmic passages to delicate minimalistic interludes and features Henshall’s trademark guitar and keyboard playing throughout along with his debut performance as a lead vocalist.
