Grungy rockers Marisa And The Moths have released a video for their new single 'Just Like Me', ahead of their second album What Doesn't Kill You, released 3rd May.

On the video, frontperson Marisa comments: “I wanted to create a video for this song that represents how it feels for me, which is stormy, chaotic and emotionally explosive. The solo performance of the song was decided as a way to not overcomplicate it, and to let the music speak for itself, as the music already has many layers to it. To keep visuals interesting, we played with angles, crystals, and even a broken mirror, which really helped to portray a feeling of “distorted reality”, which helped to portray the meaning of the song.”

The new track is an introspective journey into the intricate parallels within ourselves and society, enveloped in a compelling alternative rock soundscape reminiscent of Deftones and underscored by vocal prowess echoing the vulnerability and power of Jeff Buckley.

Speaking about the single, Marisa shares, “For me, this song is like a Christopher Nolan film playing in the shadows of my mind. It feels familiar yet infinite, like a stormy fractal landscape where patterns repeat endlessly. Like some kind of beautiful nightmare. It embodies a multitude of emotions and viewpoints of the human condition and our self-destructive nature, yet, whilst the general meaning is something that I feel is relatable, it’s definitely still open to interpretation.”

Penned during the Covid lockdowns whilst Marisa was personally healing from an abusive relationship, 'Just Like Me' offers a narrative of inner turmoil, delving into the depths of insecurity and anxiety when viewed from an individual perspective. However, when viewed through the broader lens of humanity, it emerges as a poignant reflection of our collective struggles. Marisa's lyrics serve as a reminder of our innate capacity for self-destruction, urging us to confront our flaws and strive towards a better future for all.

Commenting on the new tracks, vocalist Loeden Learn says:

"'Kiss!' is about forgetting all of the aspects in life that you can’t control, throwing responsibility away for a while, and just sitting down and smoking a nice joint. It’s about learning to let go of things you can’t control.

"'Sick To My Stomach' is just straight up an angry riff song, all of the angriest parts of my brain yelling at me and spitting in my face essentially. This song encompasses all of the things I don’t like about myself, and throws them at me with zero remorse. There are a lot of songs about hating yourself, but few are this angry." 

Rarity's follow-up to 2019's lauded record, The Longest Lonesome, finds the perfect balance between catchy pop-punk anthems and the gripping intensity of their post-hardcore roots.

Discussing the new album, Learn adds:

"This record at the end of the day is about growth. Growth as human beings, growth as friends, growth as four musicians trying to make the best songs they possibly can in a band they love. This record is a record of love, a record of passion and a record of brutal honesty. The lyrics are personal and introspective, with themes that I absolutely hated talking about with every fibre of my being. My worst fears and greatest dreams. This record is about losing self control, not being able to hold your brain together in times of sadness and pain, and taking things you have no control over way too seriously.

"While the lyrics may convey feelings of sadness and anger, the record itself couldn’t be further from. We loved writing this record, and we miss waking up every day being able to make this record. It is everything Rarity as a band have always wanted to be, and we’re just so happy to be here. We’re happy we’re able to make music and live this crazy emotional rollercoaster of a life that we live. We wouldn’t have it any other way. We truly sincerely hope people enjoy Lower Feeling as much as we enjoyed making it, because we really truly loved every second of it."

Originally uniting in 2014, the members of Rarity started touring straight out of high school and quickly amassed an avid following. In 2015, the Hamilton, ON-based outfit dropped their debut EP, Alive in Your Eyes, featuring the breakout single 'Anne Hathaway' and showcasing a mature blend of buoyant pop-punk and intricate post-hardcore that belied their relative youth.
 
A critically-acclaimed full-length, I Couldn’t Be Weaker, came the next year and, with fan-favourites like 'Stranger' and 'Exhale', proved the band’s quick rise to prominence was well-earned. Rarity saw their stock soar to impressive heights with high-profile tours and festival slots and, for a while, it seemed that they were unstoppable.
 
But then, in 2017, the band watched as their foundation started to weather and crumble. They faced a cesspool of legal struggles, illnesses, strained relationships, and the departure of two founding members. That left drummer Evan Woods, singer Loeden Learn, and guitarist Adam Clarke with some difficult decisions.
 
It would’ve been easy to throw in the towel – and they almost did – but self-doubt, strain, and conflict soon spurred unbridled creativity and Rarity, augmented by the addition of bassist Cole Gardner in 2018, realised there was plenty to fight for.
 
The band emerged in 2019 with their critically praised comeback record The Longest Lonesome, which was still rooted in accessible, hook-laden melodies, but with a sharper edge and more potent distillation of their various influences – from metal and hardcore to pop-punk, alternative, and much in between.
 
Now, Rarity look forward to starting their next chapter in 2024, re-energised and with a new found wealth of creativity, as they continue to carve their own niche in the pop-punk/post-hardcore scene.

Theories of Emptiness was produced by Tom S. Englund and Jonas Ekdahl, and was mixed by Adam "Nolly" Getgood (ex-Periphery), who worked closely with the band from the start - bringing out the vividness of the album’s overall sonic profile. Rounding out the album’s production, mastering was helmed by Thomas “Plec” Johansson (Soilwork, The Night Flight Orchestra, Onslaught, The Gems, Eleine and many more).

Theories of Emptiness follows its chart-topping and critically acclaimed predecessor, 2022’s A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Testament), which entered charts worldwide at #3 in Sweden (Metal), ranked #5 on the Top New Artist Albums charts in the United States, entered #7 in Finland and #12 in Germany.

“For us, progression is paramount”, states Tom S. Englund when discussing the eleven track opus, Theories of Emptiness. “We're dedicated to ensuring that our music remains innovative and avoids stagnation. "'Cometh the Storm' was built from a riff I started playing on bass at practice," explains bassist/guitarist Jeff Matz. "I was noodling around with this melancholic harmonic minor line, just hammering the notes with my left hand, when Matt yelled out “Are we recording this!?” The chorus riff was something Coady and I came up with when we were jamming in LA. Matt then came in and worked up some rough lyrics and came up with the vocal line. For the chorus, I used this fretless bass I’d acquired. The weight of the low frequencies this thing produced was insane - how it blended with the guitars and drums, it was like being hit with a sledgehammer. We knew right away that this was going to be an epically heavy track."

“This was the first time I got to work with the guys on set and we had a blast,” offers Mucci. "High on Fire lyrics can always be interpreted in a number of ways, so I started by trying to define “The Storm”. A huge list of visual ideas got whittled down to the two essential characters at work, The Man and Gaia, representing duel ends of the spectrum — with a very destructive crossover. I always try to keep things light and encourage everyone to come with ideas — like Coady’s burning cymbal idea! No better way to end your High on Fire shoot than with exploding cymbals!”

The GRAMMY Award-winning group, celebrating their 25th anniversary, recorded Cometh the Storm at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts with producer Kurt Ballou. It has been more than five years since the band’s revered Electric Messiah earned High on Fire ‘Best Metal Performance’ at the 2018 GRAMMY Awards, placing the unit among the ranks of groups such as Black Sabbath, Motörhead, and Metallica as winners of the prestigious award. “Being nominated for a Grammy was pretty mind blowing, but winning one was truly surreal,” says bassist Jeff Matz. “A Grammy win was certainly not something we were aiming for, but it’s quite an honor to be recognized in that way, and we are grateful. In terms of how it’s affected us, it has definitely opened some new doors—we’ve gained some new fans and wider recognition, but it hasn’t changed how we approach our craft. We’ve always tried to create uncompromising music that feels good to us, and is in line with what we would want to listen to.”
 
In the half decade since the band’s Grammy nod, the world has seismically shifted and is a different place. The same can be said for High on Fire. The band’s musical archetype has been modded, morphed, and evolved; its blast radius widened. Bassist Jeff Matz joined Mutoid Man and traveled abroad to study and learn the techniques of Middle Eastern folk music and the plucked string instrument, the bağlama (or saz), Matt Pike formed a solo band, released an LP, and toured the U.S., and world-renowned percussionist, Coady Willis, he of Melvins, Big Business, and Murder City Devils united with Pike and Matz to breathe new life into the group a quarter century into their captivating career.
 
The lead track on High on Fire’s new album, Cometh the Storm, is the invigorating 'Burning Down', a vigorous barrage which exemplifies the prowess the unification of the three professional musicians owns.

The band comment on the new single: "EXTREMITY / ANGER / SOUL SEARCHING - this was the formula for the most aggressive song Shrapnel have ever delivered.

"Born from tragedy, 'Guardian' seeks to understand how we cope with the hardest circumstances life throws at us. A centrepiece of the new album In Gravity, 'Guardian' evokes a sense of anxiety and determination with gritty, pounding verses giving in to a massive and explosive chorus vocal hook. This is a modern metal song for those affected by tragedy. 

"The last few years have been really tough for all members of Shrapnel with divorce, loss of loved ones and complete life upheaval. The whole album has become based around the idea of coping strategies, self reflection and dealing with anger, frustration and sorrow. 'Guardian' is one of the most direct examples of this and hopefully it speaks to people with as much gravitas as it has had on us through the writing and recording process."

Continuing, Chris adds, "As an album, In Gravity really has a focus on how we all deal with problems of varying extremities. We wanted to take a look at how some of the solutions to our problems become problems in of themselves, be that addiction or anything else.

"It's an album about how difficult it can be to face those problems many of us share. It was written during tragedy, and we're rolling it out during some difficult times for us. While we don't have the answers, we also realise that the ways we deal with issues is to create art, which in itself is a healer. We've really been holding the mirror up and exercising some demons on this one. It's led to the best album we've ever written, and something we hope will connect other people far more deeply than anything we've released previously."

Established in 2009, Shrapnel has relentlessly pursued a path of musical devastation. Having shared stages with iconic bands like Exodus, Sepultura, Death Angel, Suicidal Tendencies, Wolf, and Gama Bomb, and gracing the Bloodstock Festival stage three times, the band's reputation precedes them. 35 years after the recording, EXODUS decide to share this outstanding live performance with their fans. Recorded live at the legendary The Astoria in London back in March of 1989, EXODUS show once again why they are one of the biggest thrash metal bands of all time. Recorded on the 8th of March in 1989 at The Astoria in London, fans witnessed a night that went down in history and became legendary among EXODUS and thrash metal fans worldwide. The band had just released their third studio album Fabulous Disaster and started a five month run to promote the album which brought the Americans to Europe for a month of live shows. During this European run EXODUS decided to record the show in London, but never released it. This recording remained unheard of in the EXODUS vaults - until now. 

Be prepared for a much more aggressive and rawer sound than on the studio albums. British Disaster: The Battle of '89 (Live At The Astoria) is the ultimate live album presenting the sheer energy of what made EXODUS famous and notorious during the 80s, and what made them a legendary thrash metal band. A best of setlist compiled from the band's first three classic albums. The live album, mixed and mastered by Zeuss and the artwork done by Mark DeVito, will be available as CD, 2LP vinyl and digital.
